• New Home.

Hey all, just a little update.

We have moved servers and as a result, we are now under a new URL and a new name, we are now Irishpolitics.net. Please change your bookmarks and update how you get to this site.

    Our new URL is

    www.irishpolitics.net

The old URL will become obsolete over the coming week.

We will also be upgrading the site software to the latest version but this will be done over the coming weeks, once everyone is comfortable with the new URL.

    Sorry for any inconvenience.

A thread for members to ask questions about the site and hopefully get expert answers. :)

Two questions to kick off.

(1) How do I 'Like' a post?

(2) When composing a post how do I select a word or block of words for deletion?

Ho there,

1) To like a post you should see a green like a button on the far right of the screen at the bottom of the post.
2) this is a current style issue that we are working on, it should highlight the normal way.

About the "likes"- just press the "likes" button. Works for me.
You might have a browser not working correctly. It might need an update.
I use "edge" and have no problems.

Thanks.

(1) I have no such button. I tried to post a screenshot but I don't have the necessary permissions.

(2) Nothing I can do with mouse or keyboard will highlight text when I'm composing a message.

I've just accidentally discovered that selecting the text is selected, it's just that it's not highlighted.

Issue 2 should now be resolved, a change of colour to the highlighting text has been included.

Can you stick a twitter embed tool in. That was one of the better features added to p.ie in recent months

Nice. How does one do that. Is there a button?
No, its very simple, just get the link of twitter and paste.

On Twitter on the right you will see an arrow, click on it and you will see copy link to tweet. Just paste that link on the site here and it displays.

Looking at the 'Members' page shows that we seem to be accumulating 'points'. Admin has 8 of these and everyone else appears to have 3.

What are they and how are they gathered?

Its just a default points system, you get point for the more posts you make, most likes etc. It's something I will probably turn off as I don't really see any benefits with it.

I have enabled a group feature on the site, this is something that was requested by some members.

The homepage currently shows new posts, do we need to add anything on the home page or are people happy with the look and feel of it?

What is a Quote break?
Often in a long post that you are quoting, there will be numerous points being made that you would prefer to address individually.

A Quote Break function allows you to easily and conveniently break the quoted post up and answer each point as raised.

I think there is,

Highlight the text you want to quote,
A quote message should appear, then highlight the rest of the text you want to quote - again click on the quote. Then in the test box insert quotes and all the quotes you highlighted should appear.

Certainly I don't, as I'm not terribly mobile and I don't drink, but several members in a group to which I belonged did meet up on a number of occasions

in a couple of places. Cyber-socialising is fun.

The home page could do with having the name of the last poster on a particular thread. Right now it only lists the name of the OP.

Are you viewing on a mobile?

It should display on a PC.

Yep. On a mobile where I do 90% of my politicoforuming. Fair enough. Understand that mobile version will be less. Is there a full site option on mobile like p.ie?

On my android phone I have 3 dots at the top right where I can choose Desktop option.

Failing that if you turn your phone on its side you should get the full site as the site is responsive.

Cheers. That option isn't available on iPhone and turning on the side doesn't work neither it seems. Not complaining mind, just making you aware.

Just tried my partners Iphone.

I see what you mean, there is an option for desktop version but it does not work. Holding down the refresh button in the url gives the option but sadly it does nothing.

Turning on the side did work though,

Swipe up from the base and make sure screen lock is off.

What browser are you using?

Safari: The "Share" box. Top right of the screen. There's an option there for "Request desktop site"
Chrome: The three dots as mentioned above.

Knowhere.
Hi,
First of all well done on the new site.. Secondly I just discovered the "Create a poll" feature on the divorce thread I started. Love it. Thank you. I wasn't aware that this could be done. Was thinking of setting up a thread called "Site features, tips and tricks - A Users Guide", when I came across this one... but I had to go looking for it. Could we keep this on the homepage or someplace easy to find until people get used to the various new features of the site?
