Official statements from Taliban. Defeat of the last hold out in Panjshir valley north of kabul.

Other outlets mentioning with help from pakistan drones
Yeah, big surprise there. They don't call him 'Imran Taliban' for nothing.

Britian has a lot to answer for. They escalated Muslim/Hindu tensions on the Indian continent and created Pakistan.
There has been tension, at least, and open hatred, often, between Hindus and Muslims on the Indian sub continent going back hundreds of years. Long before the British ever got to India.

Hence “escalated”, not “started”.

You really have to start replying to the comments that are on the site, not the comments that you think are in the site.

the point stands; Pakistan was created as a direct result of the British Empire’s exit strategy from former territories, including both Ireland and the Indian sub-continent: partition.

Yes .. his crew were the ones mastering suicide bombers back in the 90s and earlier and later. Using kids and girls also .. drugged etc. The Haqqani Network
Frightful crowd. And essentially another of ISI's golden movies, except one where they lost control of the script.

The Taliban has appointed Mohammad Hasan Akhund, a close aide to the group’s late founder Mullah Omar, as head of Afghanistan’s new caretaker government, weeks after it took control of the country in a rapid offensive.

The list of cabinet members announced by chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid on Tuesday was dominated by members of the group’s old guard, with no women included.

A quiet retirement home
And women will not be permitted to play sports.

Which should see the men's cricket team lose their Test status, if the ICC have any integrity.

Watching an interesting show on AL JAZEERA just there. All about the Afghan Film industry which goes back at least to the 60s. Like Iran, in these old B&W films not a burka in sight, what looks lile a very cosmo society in the swinging 60s. Hard to see it now but afghanistan was a country at relative peace and normality pre probably Russia & US involvement in the 80s. The country got fcked up ...

And this:

KABUL 1972:

KABUL 1962:

Two Afghan medicine students (left and centre) speaking to their Professor (right) as they examine a plaster showing part of the human body at the Faculty of Medicine in Kabul

All accurate, but reflecting a fairly small and urban section of society. Much of the population in the provinces and the Kabul slums would have felt resentment against the educated elite, and clearly the Taliban did not come out of nowhere.

A Google search will throw up similar images from Iran in the 1970's and indeed from Egypt, Pakistan and Turkey who also would have seen themselves as secular, progressive countries until various times over the past 40 years, but Islamism was always able to flourish among the poor and those who felt excluded from elite society.

Oh

There have been reports of a row between Taliban leaders, involving Mr Baradar and a rival faction loyal to the powerful Haqqani network.

Clearly Taliban 'rows' are rather more akin to 'musical differences' within heavy metal bands than the more prosaic bunfights we have here, like in the Dail last night.

The Yanks have owned up to their disastrous drone strike on a civilian family (who ironically were waiting to flee to the US):-

Meanwhile, the Taliban have brought back their old 'virtue and vice' ministry:-

Speaking of the Taliban and their morality police. Weren't they clamping down hard on the opium trade before they were toppled by the US/Allies?

It's hard to imagine that they would be ready for round two of that battle.

And one day after this announcement some horrendous photos & videos appearing on twitter today from HERAT.

The Taliban at there old form. Summary executions wild west style it seems. They are hanging bloodied dead bodies from cranes in visible areas in likes of HERAT etc.

Display of the bodies of "kidnapping suspects" in the city of Herat by the Taliban.

Wont post the tweets, search yourself if you want to.

Taliban 2.0, yeah sure .. we are right back to mid/late 90s

From @AfghanistanDef9 on twitter:

Taliban executed a local resident in the Herat province in a summary execution. Locals in the Herat province said to the reporters that the executed person stole flour from a shop to feed his hungry family. He was a municipal cleaner and recently fired by the Taliban from his job

No surprise there. If they truly want to be isolated and sanctioned like last time, they are going the right way about it.
